In addition, you may find additional local scholarship opportunities through synagogues, local Hillels, Jewish Federations, and other community organizations. We recommend reaching out to Jewish campus or community professionals in your area to explore further financial assistance options.

Do I need a passport? What if I don't have one?

Yes. No one can travel to Israel without a valid passport. If you don’t hold a U.S. or Canadian passport, you may need a visa or face other restrictions. Please contact your closest Israeli consulate for more information.

Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your last day in Israel. Please be sure to check the expiration date of your passport as soon as you apply for a program.

If you don’t already have a valid passport, we recommend that you begin the process to obtain one as soon as possible. If it is within 5 months of the program start date, we recommend utilizing an expedited passport renewal process.

You’ll be required to provide your Organizer with your passport number and a photocopy of your passport to confirm your spot on the program.

Am I required to have an Israeli cell phone number and plan?

Yes. All participants must have a cell phone with an Israeli number and data/calling plan. International calling plans are not permitted in place of an Israeli number. Your organizer will provide recommendations on where to purchase an Israeli SIM card or rent a local phone.

Participants are responsible for the setup and cost of their phone plans.

What is the deposit for?

The participation and security deposit ensures your commitment to the program and covers any potential damages to housing. It will be refunded upon full participation and completion of the Onward program, provided you are in good standing (having fully participated in all required program components) and there is no damage to the housing.

How is my travel arranged?

Participants are responsible for their own flight and travel arrangements unless explicitly told otherwise. Your Birthright Israel Onward program begins when you arrive at the program housing. Required arrival times will vary by program and each specific program organizer will inform participants as to their required arrival times in Israel. Participants may arrive later on the day of their program start date with previous permission from the organizer. For more assistance on scheduling your flights please reach out to your program organizer.

Participants who arrive prior to their program start date and/or who wish to stay in Israel after their program finishes are responsible for arranging their own accommodations and insurance and will not receive program benefits.
